The story of a landscape is told through the minerals deposited under its crust, layer by layer. The stories we tell are captured in photography, and in this case negatives, with the visual and verbal elements often playing in harmony and contradiction of one another. In this double woven tapestry, the stories of my childhood are at once preserved and distorted, displayed and concealed.

My first double weave attempt served as a fraught love letter with dried flowers collected and given to me over the years. The process of preserving these tokens of affection ultimately distorting the clarity of their original meaning.

Dazzling colorways, ghostly silhouettes and highly adaptive plants exist within the harsh desert climate. The Joshua Tree landscape became a fertile research ground. I was particularly struck by the rich textures and silhouettes of decomposing cacti and color palettes of the mineral rich soil. The series includes weavings and cyanotypes.
